TAGGED
“A
Fool knows the price of everything and the value of nothing” I came across this
quote and my creative juices flooded my system with questions of how we tag
every relationship, every materialistic pleasure, every endeavour and every
situation based on our understanding of the Price and the Value of it.
Right
from a very young age all of us are taught to achieve high standards and
relentlessly pursue success. A bench mark is set even before we take our first
steps. Success is always overrated and dreams understated. Measure of success
varies depending on the age, lifestyle and the society we live in but dreams
are unique for every individual and will not waver due to age, lifestyle or
society constraint.
Success
for a 1 year old is to stand on its own, for a 3 year old is to understand the
alphabets, for a teenager is to shine among their peers, for an adult is to
settle in a good job, for a married couple is to have a happy family, for a
middle aged person it is to have a steady income and a fit physique, for a 60
year old it is to have body free of aches and ailments and for a senior citizen
it is to have a loving family to take care of them. But dreams will always
remain unscathed by predetermined norms. Very few comprehend that realising our
dreams will be our greatest success and living our dream brings greatest satisfaction.
I
read a story about a very wealthy man who had achieved success in his business
and had amassed wealth to last the next 5 generations. He was emotionally
broken when his wife passed away and was appalled to realise that none of his so
called friends or relatives held his hand to console him. All his life running
behind the branded and standard he forgot the significance of being available
for his kith and kin. His dream was to keep his family happy. What he never
realised was that by buying them whatever they wished for or by showering them
with gifts he was only achieving success in the views of the society who had
tagged him to be a millionaire but his family tagged his efforts as means to accumulate
wealth and not to earn their love. He knew the price of everything that he
owned but he did not know the value of all that was his own. Einstein once said
“Try not to become a man of success but a man of value”.
Most
parents teach their children to take care of their toys or other valuables
based on the price tag but very few educate their children to understand the worth
of priceless values. Let us learn and educate the value of love, the value of
care, the value of giving, the value of forgiving, the value of gratitude, the
value of a smile, the value of a loss, the value of a hug, the value of friends,
the value of family, the value of dreams, the value of happiness and most of
all the value of being human. Let us
understand that price does not determine the value it is always the value that
determines the price. We realise the value of everything after we lose it. Let
us train ourselves to see the value when we still have it. I am ready to value
my values ......Are you?
